Frucor helping rescuers at Pike River mine

02 Dec 2010

Frucor New Zealand is doing its bit to help the rescuers at the Pike River Mine by donating beverages.

Since the explosion in the West Coast mine on Friday the 19th of November, Frucor has sent the rescuers, mining staff and families over 250 cartons of drinks.

The rescuers were in desperate need of water as they work tirelessly in the heavy bush which heats up to about 30 degrees and Frucor was more than happy to do what it could to help out.

At this stage the rescue effort is focused on a modified jet engine which rescuers and experts hope will starve the mine of oxygen, preventing any further fires and allow the rescuers time to get in and recover the bodies of the 29 men.

Initial hopes of finding the miners alive diminished after three further explosions erupted in the week following the first explosion.
