Mizone sponsored athlete wins Gold
13 Oct 2010
Mizone sponsored Commonwealth Games athlete Ali Shanks was the first New Zealander to bring home gold at the New Delhi games.
Shanks, 27, cycled her way to victory in the 3000m Women’s Individual Pursuit, with a spectacular three minute, 30.875 second ride.
Hydration Marketing Manager at Frucor, Kathy Robinson, says Shanks has been sponsored by Mizone for four years after originally applying for a job at Frucor.
“Ali was offered the Marketing graduate role but decided to pursue her sporting career as a priority,” says Robinson.
“At that stage she was relatively unproven in the international competitive cycling world but Frucor decided to back her and the sponsorship relationship with Mizone began. Since then Ali has gone from strength to strength, and in 2009 she became the world 3000m track cycling champion.”
The Dunedin rider features on the new Mizone Isopower Low Carb range and is a big drinker of the Lime Mizone, helping her to keep hydrated as she endures gruelling training.
Shanks recent win at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games was a huge triumph for New Zealand, who until then had only been collecting Silver and Bronze medals.
